No more ConFusion with Oracle’s Fusion Applications
Attempting to clear the muddy waters about the status of its next-generation Fusion applications, CEO Larry Ellison used his closing keynote at the Oracle OpenWorld conference to talk about the first of 3 fusion applications that are being released. These applications will be Sales Force Automation applications and in no way will replace any of Oracle’s existing ERP applications such as PeopleSoft Enterprise, Enterprise One, or Oracle’s E-Business suite.
Ellison hinted that these applications will more than likely become available starting in the first quarter of 2008 and that they will more than likely not be released all at once.
Ellison also promised that the Fusion applications will work with current-generation ERP applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel and JD Edwards through pre-built "integration packs" Oracle is developing.
Ellison in know way ever mentioned that Fusion applications will replace current PeopleSoft applications. In fact, many people asked this question in the Q&A sessions at the Oracle conference. The answer was that there will not be any applications that will replace PeopleSoft applications, but rather, the existing Oracle applications such as PeopleSoft Enterprise, will become more like fusion apps with each new release because Oracle will be integrating more of its Fusion middleware capabilities into these applications.
Hopefully this will eliminate the confusion about Fusion and remove the obstacles that have forced many customers to postpone their upgrades and implementations, simply because they wanted to wait and see what the new Fusion application that was supposed to replace their PeopleSoft Applications.
