The Benefits of Upgrading to PeopleSoft 9

When Oracle announced the Applications Unlimited program for PeopleSoft applications, many customers were extremely relieved. Oracle has held to its promise by delivering PeopleSoft 9 Enterprise applications.
In a recent interview with Doris Wong, Vice President and general manager of PeopleSoft Enterprise applications, Doris discussed many of the features and benefits of PeopleSoft version 9.
Doris stated that “Oracle is committed to continued support of its PeopleSoft customers and is on track in delivering value by adding additional features, technology and value to the Enterprise product line.
Most importantly, PeopleSoft version 9 adds new and additional features that take advantage of Oracle’s Fusion Middleware. “Customers will have the option to use the components of Fusion, however it is not be required”, said Wong.
In explaining how Enterprise 9.0 applications were developed, Wong mentions that there were 3 key themes that were at the forefront of the new version.
The first was that Oracle must continue to extend value through next generation technology. The second was to continue to ensure that all business processes within the PeopleSoft Enterprise 9 applications are best in class. Finally, Wong stated that the third key theme was the Total ownership experience. She goes on to say that Oracle is committed to lowering the total cost of ownership by reducing overall maintenance costs, upgrade costs, and improving performance.
Most importantly, Oracle has taken components of Oracle Fusion technology and has made it available in PeopleSoft Enterprise 9. For example, XML publisher, which is a Fusion application, is now embedded in PeopleSoft applications. Additionaly, PeopleSoft 9 takes advantage of web services and the Service Oriented Architecture, so that customers can implement web services in their PeopleSoft applications to allow them to interact with any desperate system. The Business Process Execution Language, also known as BPEL is a new tool that is enabled in PeopleSoft 9.
