FTP transfers as a PeopleSoft process

In many instances there is a requirement to transfer a file using the FTP protocol within your PeopleSoft environment. For example, you may be getting a lock box file from your bank. However, you must first grab the file using the FTP protocol from your bank.

There are various ways to perform file transfers and a PeopleSoft environment. For example, the program that you used to process the file may be written as an SQR program or an application engine program. And, in some cases you will have several processes some that are SQR’s and some that are application engine programs all needing to use the FTP Process.

While you can certainly write of function within a SQR or a function with an application engine, you will really want to have something that you can utilize over and over. One of the best a approaches would be to have a flexible option that is integrated into the process scheduler. Doing this will allow you to use file transfers as part of your processes and jobs that are scheduled within PeopleSoft.

In order to do this you must first create a process type definition within your PeopleSoft environment.

The following article will show you exactly how to do this step by step.
